Outdoor sign for Salt Hotel & Pub, family friendly

About SALT

Norwegian writer Isak Dinesen once said:

“The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea.”

This proverb is a hallmark of our experience living and working in Ilwaco. SALT came to be when our family blindly dove head first into proprietorship of the old Harbor Lights motel and bar in 2015. Were we naive? Probably. But we knew a good thing when we saw it and couldn’t let the chance to resurrect the establishment go.

The original motel was built in 1972, and for almost 40 years it was a storied lodging and watering hole that catered to commercial and sport fishers. With the support of other local businesses and friends, we breathed new life into the modest building establishing a modern, inviting getaway and place to recharge for anyone who walks through our doors.

We don’t profess to know it all or to think we always get everything right, but we hope your visit is pleasant and memorable. If you love what we’re doing, tell your friends. If you don’t, please tell us. We’ll do our best to make it right.

Saltily Yours,
Jules & Laila

  • The loud siren is the Ilwaco Volunteer Fire Alarm Signal to rouse volunteer firefighters. Always a good idea to check the surrounding area, but in general there is no need to evacuate unless you hear the local building alarm. We do apologize in advance for the disturbance. It’s all part of the small town charm and having a volunteer fire department that doesn’t use pagers.

  • In the unlikely event that the ground shakes for longer than a few seconds, gather your essentials and head to the higher ground on the north side of town near Hilltop School. There is a tsunami siren which has an audio message to go with it.
